Blog Post No. 56 - ButterScotch Exclusive Territory Jacket in Olive

The Butterscotch × Vanson Leathers Territory Jacket returns in a third colorway: Olive.

Inspired by the iconic Type III trucker jacket, the Territory Jacket combines timeless styling with the materials and craftsmanship Vanson has been known for since 1974. The newest version is built from Vanson’s 14 oz. olive waxed canvas with waxed cowhide leather accents, creating a jacket designed to develop character and get better with age.

 The Territory Jacket was more than two years in the making, going through prototypes, fit adjustments, material testing, and real-world wear before arriving at the final design. While it isn’t intended to be a dedicated motorcycle jacket, its motorcycle influence runs throughout, including provisions for D3O CE-certified armor for riders who want added protection. Above all, the Territory Jacket was designed as an alternative to fast fashion: a piece meant to be worn hard, re-waxed, repaired, and kept for years to come.

The Territory features of a number of construction elements that sets this type 3 style apart from the rest. 

The body is constructed in a durable 14oz waxed cotton canvas that is accented by a gorgeous waxy finished cowhide leather collar. 

 

The leather carries throughout the jacket at what we call "touch points" giving you, the wearer, a more enjoyable wear and also a piece of clothing that ages better with time.

The more wearing and "touch time" on both the body canvas and leather patina into a jacket that will be unique and specific to you the wearer. The leather collar will darken and the body will patina and darken with time. 

Additionally the jacket features ample external and internal storage.

Jumping to the internal lining, the Olive color way features a red tartan plaid lining that we previously used in the Tan Version of the Territory Jacket. We really loved the color contrasts between the rich brown leather, the deep olive body, and the warm and inviting plaid internal lining that just screams fall wears ahead. 

The sleeve is lined with a black heavy satin that gives you ease of wear and layering to help avoid any binding or catching on bulky layers. All of the lining material is hand selected and sourced with US suppliers. Not only does the body and sleeve lining add some additionally warmth and ease of wear, it also creates a layer between you and the external shell. Many waxed jackets can have a "damp" wet feeling against the skin due to the waxing process and this was something I never really loved when trying to layer waxed outerwear. It also can keep you feeling cold due to the outer elements and temps reacting with the waxed shell. This is why I opted to fully line the Territory. Now this does add some additional weight and production cost to the jacket but I have to say the end result is WELL worth it in cost per wears.

The back of Jacket is a sample fixed arm design in a 4 panel construction that follows the ergonomics of your body. Slightly wider armhole allows for some break-in on the waxed canvas to accommodate layers. The Full leather collar accents nicely and is mounted to the waxed canvas body for a clean look. At the waistband you have a simple two snap adjustment for fine tuning the wear if you want to take in or let out the waist if you like a more or less cinched look. 

 

The Sleeve also features a two snap closure for adjusting the based on the wear (watch, riding, heavy layers etc)
